Resumen

GALVAN-DIAZ, F. J.. The criticism work in the world: notes on literary criticism. Connotas. Rev. crit. teór. lit. [online]. 2022, n.24, pp.82-112.  Epub 30-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6019.  https://doi.org/10.36798/critlit.v0i24.377.

In recent years, Latin American literary criticism-not to mention the humanities-in general, and Mexican in particular, has become stagnant in three ways: first, the apparent affront of Cultural Studies led some academics to recant their proposals to formal aspects; second, there is a restriction on the circulation of materials, produced by scholars, to university circuits; finally, there are colleagues who maintain the idea that criticism is the verification of theory, a model they teach over all at the undergraduate level. This article -through a review of Doris Sommers’ proposals- returns to such situations to propose a critique that is recognized as “device”: research that identifies pleasure as its starting point facilitates the vindication of critical thinking that expands in relation to a literary work. Thus, the work of critics who recognize its impact on social and epistemic processes, becomes mundane and returns to the place that gave rise to it.
