The objective of this paper is to analyze the perception of insecurity in Mexico, the places that are most insecure, the future trend, and the relationship between perception and public policy. To meet this objective this paper is divided into two parts. First, a theoretical review of the concept outlines the reasons that is configured as a public problem, and delves into the methodology for the study and measurement. The second part analyzes the ENVIPE results 2012 for the perception of insecurity of Mexicans, and contrasted the knowledge of public policy and the perception of insecurity to know if there is a relation between them. That is, if public policy affects the perception of insecurity.

The study concludes that the perception of insecurity is a public problem that undermines the quality of life of individuals, and the case of Mexicans is no exception. In Mexico, this has affected people stop doing everyday activities that affecting social recreational limit and inhibit the ability to generate social cohesion, and in some cases generates other larger public problems.
