Objective:

To find out the relationship between the production and consumption of alfajores, especially those of regional type, and associated tourist and cultural practices, from the perspective of visual culture and the geography of food, addressing the relationship between the different varieties of alfajores and their production contexts, in the sphere of the Argentine Republic and the Southern Cone.

Methodology:

A qualitative methodology was used, appealing to the study of bibliographic and journalistic sources, to the analysis of material collected in situ and in a virtual way, as well as to the generation of content in social networks to interact with users.

Results:

The alfajor is the candy whose consumption has grown more since the beginning of the 21st century, both in the Argentine domestic market and the exports. This growth is contemporary with a moment of expansion of the tourism sector nationwide, and is also, expressed in a growing presence in social networks.

Limitations:

The absence of official data in historical and updated series, as well as the low horizontal integration of production, prevent a thorough knowledge of this sector of the candy market.

Conclusion:

The alfajor is one of the objects that in its circulation production contributes to shaping and defining tourist destinations in the national territory, and today it is the center of a growing interest in popular culture.
