In the field of study of social representations it is common to find works that incorporate the concept and theory in a piecemeal way, or in which there is some notional confusion and investigative inconsistency. In this text, the author presents some reflections and recommendations on key elements that research in this field needs to bring together, so that people interested in this proposal and its application in educational research can design and implement solidly grounded research. The contents are articulated in three problematic nodes: the construction of the research object and the choice of the subjects that share it, the theoretical-methodological approaches that distinguish the different approaches of the empirical studies and the most used collection and analysis methods.
