GARZA-TORRES, Héctor Arturo; LOPEZ MEDINA, José Cornelio y REQUENA LARA, Glenda Nelly. New record of American Pygmy Kingfisher for Tamaulipas, México. Huitzil [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, e555. Epub 03-Jul-2020. ISSN 1870-7459. https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2020.21.1.416.
New distribution records of species increases the biological knowledge of the species and the location where was observed. We recorded, for the first time, the presence of the American Pygmy Kingfisher (Chloroceryle aenea) in Tamaulipas, within the Laguna La Vega Escondida Natural Protected Area, in a place known as Casa de la Naturaleza. This species has a wide distribution from southern Mexico to northeastern Argentina. The record represents the northernmost distribution for the species in an aquatic environment associated with the Tamesí lagoon system, expanding its distribution by more than 130 km from San Luis Potosí and 160 km from Tuxpan (Veracruz).
