Resumen

WINDFIELD-PEREZ, Juan Carlos  y  FERNANDEZ, Jesús A.. A new record of the Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus (Accipitriformes: Accipitridae) at the Presa de Atlangatepec, Tlaxcala, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, e534. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2019.20.2.398.

The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is distributed mainly in the northern hemisphere, from Alaska and Canada to the coasts of Sinaloa and Veracruz, however, in central Mexico there are few visual records available in data bases. For the first time in the state of Tlaxcala, on March 1, 2016, a juvenile individual of H. leucocephalus was observed perched in a tree near the shore of presa de Atlangatepec. The record is placed at 2,498 masl, a higher elevation than most of previous records for Mexico, and raising the raptor list for Tlaxcala to 16 species. Probably the increasing activities related to the study of birds in Tlaxcala as scientific research and observation and photography, has resulted in a better understanding and documentation of multiple aspects of the biology of the native avifauna.
