CAJIGA LEON, Ana de la et al. Post-surgical hypothermia: incidence at Hospital Ángeles Lomas. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.1, pp.111-115.  Epub 22-Mar-2022. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/92018.

Postoperative hypothermia is a preventable complication with a worldwide incidence of up to 90%. It is cause of severe complications in the perioperative period as well as high morbidity. We investigated the incidence of postoperative hypothermia at the Hospital Ángeles Lomas, with a resulting 55% of patients presenting a temperature below 36 oC when arriving at the post-anesthesia unit. In only 24% of surgeries, temperature is measured with a transesophagueal thermometer, and active warming during surgery is used in 45% of procedures. The main objective of the study was to stress the importance of preventing hypothermia and its complications as well as the constant measurement of temperature as a key vital sign.
