LLANOS-HERNANDEZ, Luis. The concept of territory and research in social sciences. agric. soc. desarro [online]. 2010, vol.7, n.3, pp.207-220. ISSN 1870-5472.
Territory is a theoretical and methodological concept that explains and describes the spatial unraveling of social relationships that human beings establish in cultural, social, political or economic areas; it is an empirical reference, but it also represents a theoretical concept. In this essay, the concept of territory is analyzed from the viewpoint of epistemology, as knowledge that is built from social discipline(s), taking into account that its contents change as social relations in the world are transformed; then, territory is analyzed as an interdisciplinary concept based on research approaches from sociology and geography, and the methodological difficulties that arise in the development of any process in social research are considered.
