Resumen

PUEBLA ALBITER, Sergio et al. Determining factors of regional supply of beef in Mexico, 1994-2013. Región y sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.72, 00007. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys.2018.72.a895.

The objective of this article is to analyze the variables that determine the regional supply of beef in Mexico in the period 1994-2013 in central-western, eastern, northern, northwestern and southern regions. For this purpose, five multivariable linear models were used, and the results show that in each region supply was inelastic with respect to the price of meat; inverse and inelastic regarding the price of corn and sorghum; direct and inelastic concerning the extraction rate; positive and inelastic with regard to rainfall and subsidies. These results predict that increases in the price of meat reflect an increase in production, but this decreases if the cost of inputs rises. The conclusion is that government subsidies and rainfall resulted in a decreased inelasticity; they also play an important role in counteracting the effect of the price of inputs on the production of this meat.
