GONZALEZ PEREZ, Gilberto. Guidelines for Restructuring the World Auto Industry And Their Implications for Mexico. Norteamérica [online]. 2021, vol.16, n.2, pp.35-55. Epub 04-Abr-2022. ISSN 2448-7228. https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2021.2.442.
As a system, the auto industry uses a broad number of technologies in a business model based on exclusive mobility. This article explores the guidelines for its restructuring to situate the role and position the Mexican industry has in the global manufacturing and consumption network. Its context is the socio-technological transition toward the paradigm of interactive mobility, concluding that a strategy centered on attracting foreign direct investment undermined national productive capabilities. As a result, the country was left at a disadvantage in a context in which the advantage based on low wages disappeared in the face of a need to consolidate the skills required to implement digitalization and automation in the sector’s emerging processes.
