Resumen

TUNON PABLOS, Esperanza  y  MENA FARRERA, Ramón Abraham. Transnational Families and Socio-digital Practices in New York. Norteamérica [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.1, pp.33-55. ISSN 2448-7228.  https://doi.org/10.20999/nam.2018.a002.

This article analyzes the socio-digital practices of Mexican transnational families living in New York to understand identity changes in transnational environments and their use of information and communications technology (ICTS). The article’s key question is how the sense of place and belonging is affected by socio-digital practices. In response, the authors inform the discussion with new analytical and empirical information based on the class cleavage approach in the educational, gender, and generational spheres. Their analysis focuses on the current state of ICT use among Mexican communities in New York, the talking points and discourses prevalent in the closed Facebook group “Mexicans Living in New York,” and the socio-digital practices of ten transnational families living in New York, Albany, Latham, and Saratoga.

Palabras llave : socio-digital practices; transnational mobility; identity; use of information and communications technology (ICTS) transnational families.
