GUTIERREZ DEL ANGEL, Arturo. Las metáforas del cuerpo ¿Más allá de la naturaleza... o con la naturaleza?. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2013, vol.3, n.5, pp.258-286. ISSN 2007-8846.
This paper deals with Huichol (also called wixaritari) body conceptions and its relationship with sacred space and worldview. Because of its inherent complexity, this subject has been scarcely explored making it an even harder topic to approach. Understanding the way in which the Huichol people establish body classifications, requires looking at certain linguistic terminology. As a result, the mechanics that allow a dialogue between the different taxonomic levels (such as the spatial and temporal expressed in their worldview) becomes clearer. Furthermore, these relationships enable to consider the universe within a meta-discourse that at the same time gives form and meaning to the concept of body and sacred space. It is like this that the sacred geography, the ceremonial space and the bodily fluids are interrelated by means of shared notions within an uninterrupted paradigmatic dialogue that gradually weaves Wixaritari’s worldview.
