This work describes the context for recent emigration from Veracruz, and it explores the participation of Veracruzanos in the migratory flows that move to Mexico's northern border region. Information from the Consejo Nacional de Población (National Population Council) is used to analyze Veracruz's migratory context between 1955 and 1995 and to identify municipalities with the highest levels of international migration in the state during 1995 to 2000. Information from the Encuesta sobre migración en la frontera norte de México (Survey on Migration along Mexico's Northern Border) is used to examine the participation of Veracruzanos in the outmigration that moves to border areas, either as a destination or in route to the United States, identifying their itineraries of origin, transit, and destination.
