Resumen

INEGUEZ, María Fernanda. ¿Political or judicial? ex ante and ex post career of former judges of four Latin American constitutional courts (2000-2015). Cuest. Const. [online]. 2021, n.45, pp.179-204.  Epub 09-Mayo-2022. ISSN 1405-9193.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.24484881e.2021.45.16661.

Little has been written about the professional careers of those who make up the institutions of the judiciary, and there is less about the political trajectories of former constitutional magistrates, even though they are members of highly visible political arenas. For this reason, the research answers the question: to what extent do constitutional courts encourage the development of political careers? A quantitative analysis identifies where former constitutional judges in four Latin American countries come from and where they go. The results show that some politicians join the constitutional courts and that, after leaving the institution, they return to political careers. The data also shows that the judicial career does not reach even 40% of the judges, which opens a discussion on the professional profile of those who make up the courts, and with it the analysis of judicial behavior.

Palabras llave : political career; constitutional courts; professional career; former judges.
