Resumen

SANTIAGO GARCIA, Margarita  y  SANTIAGO, Luis Enrique. Spatial analysis of unhealthy food environment in municipalities with high prevalence of obesity in Mexico. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.73, pp.723-751.  Epub 13-Nov-2023. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20231923.

The prevalence of obesity in adults is not homogeneous through space. Its concentration has been linked to the access of individuals to an obesogenic environment. The article analyzes the relationship between the high prevalence of obesity in adults and the unhealthy food environment of the municipalities of Mexico. Methodologically, we evaluate the spatial effect of the municipal conditions that encourage the health problem. The results indicate that the problem is more acute in the municipalities of Yucatan, Colima and the north of the country where the repercussions of the unhealthy food environment have a regional diffusion effect.
