Resumen

BAZAN-PERKINS, S.D.. La energía nuclear, una alternativa de sustentabilidad para resolver la demanda eléctrica en México. (Segunda parte). Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.4, pp.281-298. ISSN 2594-0732.

The present energy policy causes a high risk in the economy of Mexico when not promoting the expansion of the capacity on the generation of electricity by means of alternative power plants such as geothermal, aeolian, solar, biomass, hydrogen or nuclear. Even more, it is based mainly on a large consumption of natural gas causing the accelerated decrement of the domestic proven reserves and the fast as cent of its imports. Due to the reduction of 1999-2002 on the national gas production, the main expectation is centered on getting sufficient supplies at competitive prices from the great commercial reserves in the Basins of Burgos and Chicontepec. However, since the fifties it was confirmed that the natural gas fields from the Basin of Burgos have minor geologic potential than those of the South of Texas.

In addition, since the sixties it was known that the gas-oil fields of the Basin of Chicontepec required expensive techniques of production for their harnessing. The former “Comisión de Energéticos” (1976) and the more recent PEMEX (2003), fore tell the cut back of the national production of hydrocarbons when not integrating opportunely new producing fields. It is being analyzed the existence of slight probabilities of finding, in the short term, significant commercial hydrocarbon fields as it could be the case in the deep water region of the Gulf of Mexico. The aim of this paper is to propose the diversification on the energy consumption in Mexico using new sources based on nuclear energy and the renewable sources. Among the initial activities, would be that of concluding the economic evaluation of the potential reserves of jurassic uranium of the Basin of Tlaxiaco and tertiary of the Basin of Burgos. Both of which, would facilitate an opportunity to produce clean and cheap energy in conditions of competitiveness by having great volume uranium reserves.
