MENDEZ-CADENA, María Esther; FERNANDEZ CRISPIN, Antonio; CRUZ VARGAS, Alejandro y BUENO RUIZ, Paola. From the Social Representation of Climate Change to Action: The Case of University Students. RMIE [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.87, pp.1043-1068. Epub 19-Feb-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.
Actions in higher education to contribute to the mitigation of climate change have included elective courses to address the phenomenon. This article focuses on determining if any one of these educational options contributes to the construction of a social representation of the phenomenon among 51 university students. A questionnaire was used to inquire about the students' conception of climate change, the effects of climate change, and the actions they carry out in response. The results indicate that the students' social representation of climate change is linked to temperature increases and associated with solar radiation; they have no complex level of conceptualization of their actions as related to the effects of climate change, nor to collective actions that may contribute to mitigating and adapting to climate change.
