SEGOVIA GONZALEZ, Francisca  y  FLANAGAN-BORQUEZ, Andrea. Challenges of Being a First-generation Indigenous Student in Today's Chilean Universities. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.82, pp.745-764.  Epub 20-Feb-2020. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents a qualitative, exploratory study of the processes of inclusion among first-generation indigenous students at Chilean universities. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to obtain in-depth knowledge of these students’ experiences during their passage through higher education, as well as the related experiences of their teachers and families. The main results of the study show the universities’ double failure to recognize these students’ ethnic identity and their unique needs as first-generation students.

Palabras llave : education; student experience; diversity outreach; indigenous education.
