The article documents the work performed by high school students when faced by a set of problems involving different methods of solution, in an educational scenario based on problem solving. During the study, the students had the opportunity to work in small groups, to present and defend their ideas to the whole class, and to revise their work constantly, based on the criticism and opinions that arose during their presentations and class discussions. In this context, the students exhibited different episodes of comprehension that allowed them to refine and strengthen their initial approaches, and eventually to use different paths for solving problems.
