Castilleja tenuiflora Benth. is a hemiparasite plant used in the traditional medicine in Mexico for its pharmacological properties. This species develops an organ called haustorium with which connects to its host and through which it provides water, nutrients and diverse metabolites. Primarily for its medicinal importance, there has been efforts to micropropagate C. tenuiflora, however the plants develop small and thin roots, making difficult this process. In this study the objective was to induce the formation of haustoria in roots of C. tenuiflora using catechin and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with two culture media; Schenk and Hildebrandt, 1972 (SH) and Gamborg et al., 1968 (B5). The results at histological level had shown the presence of haustoria in the catechin on the number and thickness of roots and B5 + H2O2 and SH + catechin in the number of haustoria, compared with the control, was also observed.
