GALINDO-ZULUAGA, Julián. Jesuit economic networks at the time of their expulsion (1767): The case of the Colegio Máximo and the Province of Santafé. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.1, e1351. Epub 03-Feb-2023. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/20073496.1351.
This article analyzes aspects of the economic life of the Society of Jesus at the time of their expulsion from the province of Santafe (Bogota). Characteristics of the Jesuit domestic market are studied, as well as the relations between the hacienda/colegio circuit, the operation and specialization of their cattle haciendas, and the tactics they used in relation to their main product: meat. The objective is to analyze some of the strategies carried out by the Jesuits that allowed the development of the economic network in the Province of Santafe at the time of their expulsion, in 1767. This work compares figures that shed light on the economic life of the Ignatians. It concludes with several elements that rethink the magnitude of the New Granada Jesuits and the incidence they had in the cattle and agricultural sphere of the viceroyalty.
