VERDU DELGADO, Ana D.; SANCHEZ CARRION, Gabriela C. y PUNIN LARREA, María Isabel. Maternity as a political strategy in Ecuadorian feminism. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.59. Epub 28-Abr-2023. ISSN 0188-7653. https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3059-014-2022.
This essay reflects on the particularities of Ecuadorian feminist discourse around the texts by Zoila Ugarte de Landívar (1864-1969) and Nela Martínez Espinosa (1912-2004). For this, it is analyzed the way in which maternity is handled in their journal articles from the concept of strategic essentialism. Analyzed discourses also reveals the complexity of an own Latin American thought in which symbolic importance of maternity is not only linked to a pattern of female subordination, but also connects with the value given to sustainability of life through care.
