The purpose of this article is to explain, from the point of view of critical discourse analysis, how venezuelan press constructs ideology in the news dealing with delictive violence. This study is based on categories for the analysis of discourse as proposed by Van Dijk (1999a, 1999b, 2003, 2005). 129 texts were analyzed taken from crime pages of four venezuelan newspapers.
