Resumen

MURCIA FANDINO, Jonathan Steven  y  ESQUIAQUI MARIN, Luis Alfonso. Green chemistry applied to university waste. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.2, pp.154-167.  Epub 11-Oct-2021. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.2.76534.

Chemistry is a fundamental part of human development. However, its inadequate handling also makes it an important source of contamination. Much of this pollution is attributed to industries, because they generate a significant amount of hazardous waste that is not properly managed. On the other hand, educational institutions generate a greater variety of these wastes and, therefore, environmental impacts. However, Green Chemistry proposes as one of its principles, reducing the generation of hazardous waste, working on the use of clean synthetic routes, the use of renewable resources, the use of alternative reaction conditions and the design of less toxic chemical substances or biodegradable. The present work carried out a bibliographic review of Green Chemistry applied in the management of chemical waste in laboratories at universities. For this, a search was made in two databases, in three different languages and selecting 50 scientific articles, being the most relevant in the subject of study. The results were presented in three approaches (practical studies, diagnostic studies and theoretical studies), most of them, affirm the need to include Green Chemistry in education as a means to guarantee sustainable development in the world.
