Resumen

ROGGERONE, Santiago M.. Power, Recognition, Freedom: Axel Honneth and the Currency of the Critical Theory of Society. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.97, pp.9-41.  Epub 25-Ene-2020. ISSN 2007-8358.

To determine just how current the critical theory of society is and, based on that, to shed some light on contemporary Marxism, this article traces the outlines of Axel Honneth’s intellectual endeavors. To do that, the author applies Honneth’s own idea of normative reconstruction, emphasizing the theoretical, philosophical, and political dimensions. He does this in three steps: an analysis of the works of Horkheimer, Adorno, Foucault, and Habermas, proposed in The Critique of Power: Reflective Stages in a Critical Social Theory (I); the fundamental turn made in the context of The Struggle for Recognition: The Moral Grammar of Social Conflicts (II); and the sketch of a democratic “ethicity” and the immediate adjustment of the idea of socialism made based on Freedom’s Right (III).

Palabras llave : Honneth; critical theory of society; power; recognition; freedom.
