This text analyses the emergence and proliferation of the so-called pedagogical press in Guadalajara as a response to specific political, economic, social, and cultural processes. In the light of the social history of written culture, in relation to the history of education, El Protector de la Infancia, El Amigo de los Niños and El Mentor de los Niños, produced and broadcast in Guadalajara during the second half of the 19th century, are analyzed. From the review of these publications the conditions that made their production and circulation possible are highlighted, as well as the emphasis placed on the promotion of instruction as a modern value. The relevance of this work lies mainly in the approach to the relationships and dynamics established by specific actors, middle and upper class, concerned with the promotion and improvement of instruction.
