Resumen

OIKION SOLANO, Verónica. A Glimpse at the Feminist Thought and Action of Dr. Mathilde Rodríguez Cabo. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.149, pp.101-135. ISSN 2448-7554.

This essay presents an exploration of the feminist praxis of Dr. Mathilde Rodríguez Cabo, Mexico’s first woman psychiatrist, that accentuates her voice, her pen and her actions at different moments of her public life. It emphasizes her diagnoses that procured the elimination of the inequality of women, and her suffragist vindication of the recognition of women’s political rights and citizenship, while placing the criticism of her political -even eugenicist arguments- in the context of the radical imaginary of the Mexican Revolution. Her thought was nourished by policies on public health and the welfare of children and women in the Soviet Union. Finally, I elucidate her pacifism, manifested through international feminist networks, and in relation to popular fronts, the battle against fascism, war, and the postwar period, as referents of her sociopolitical ideology.

Palabras llave : Mathilde Rodríguez Cabo; feminist; suffragist; assistentialist and pacifist thought; Soviet organization for the protection of mothers and children.
