Resumen

TENORIO EITEL, Solange  y  RAMIREZ-BURGOS, María José. Public university and disability. The case of Chile. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.172, pp.144-159.  Epub 31-Ene-2022. ISSN 0185-2698.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2021.172.59721.

Lately, access to higher education has increased in Latin America, however, this growth has been uneven in terms of access to opportunities, participation and studies completion. Starting at a series of policies oriented towards an inclusive approach to education, several initiatives have been implemented to promote equality and equity for students with disabilities at the tertiary level. This article is the product of a bibliographic review of various documents on the inclusion of students with disabilities, aiming to analyze the specific case of Chile and, particularly, of public universities in said country. The results reveal advances in the legislative area which, however, have turned out to be insufficient to eliminate the existing barriers (both physical and sociocultural) for students with disabilities. Therefore, we point out the need for a networking process among the institution which promotes a right approach, emphasizing the democratizing role of state education.
