Resumen

GARCIA RUIZ, Mayra. Las actividades experimentales en la escuela secundaria. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2001, vol.23, n.94, pp.70-90. ISSN 0185-2698.

The purpose of this study was to characterize the use and relevance that secondary education teachers attach to experimental activities (actividades experimentales, AE) during the teaching-learning process of natural science (enseñanza-aprendizaje de las ciencias naturales, ECN). The representative sample included 50 teachers, to whom the authors applied one pilot questionnaire, two definitive questionnaires and a semistructurated summary in order to carry out in-depth sessions. The outcomes showed that those teachers had serious problems to design, to find out and to apply AE in their teaching problems, and that it was difficult to them to marry theory and experimentation, to go to the lab and to act suitably in it and to respond to the interest and previous knowledge of the students. The conclusions of this study are that some of the problems experienced by the teachers can be made up for by improving the teaching staffs knowledge conditions, on one hand, and on the other hand by giving to the AE the credit they deserve, since they are the only way to struggle against the lack of interest in scientific knowledge and to build up a positive attitude towards science.
