SANTILLAN, Gustavo. Religious Tolerance in Mexico between 1833 and 1834 Scope and Diversity of the Reformist Project. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2024, n.67, pp.163-192. Epub 05-Abr-2024. ISSN 0185-2620. https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24485004e.2024.67.77880.
The article outlines the alternatives enunciated by different newspapers, pamphlets and authors during the management of Valentín Gómez Farías (1833-1834) to institute religious tolerance. One is particularly relevant: delimiting the tolerance of cults to Christian confessions. Based on printed sources, the essay clarifies a supposed dichotomous struggle in this regard and warns of the plurality on this subject within the reforming ranks. Likewise, it proposes that the struggle for tolerance presents a complex itinerary beyond political categories. Lastly, it outlines some aspects of the reformist experience.
