Resumen

HAMUI SUTTON, Liz. The concept of “disorder”, on the boundaries between the disease and the condition. A perspective from the social sciences. Rev. Fac. Med. (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.62, n.5, pp.39-47.  Epub 12-Ene-2021. ISSN 2448-4865.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fm.24484865e.2019.62.5.08.

The intention of this article is to reflect on the socio-cultural meanings of the experience of getting sick beyond the biomedical view. The conceptual nuances of naming the loss of health are being addressed, privileging the perspective of patients in specific contexts. We propose the conceptual construction of the notion of disorder to understand the personal and social affectation of the sufferer, considering aspects such as experience, desire, expectations and networks of meanings in which the situation is interpreted. Thus, it seeks to make visible the complexity of the environments related to suffering in the field of personal and collective identity.
