Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death worldwide. Through education their risk factors can be prevented. Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge about cardiovascular risk factors before and after an educational intervention in undergraduate interns. Method: Experimental study carried out in October 2021, 45 undergraduate internal doctors participated; an intervention group and a control group were randomly formed. The educational strategy was a course-workshop on cardiovascular risk factors. Simple frequencies, comparison of means and bivariate analysis were obtained. Results: Sedentary lifestyle, overweight or obesity, alcohol consumption, family history of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease were identified in more than 50% of the undergraduate internal doctors. After the intervention, the mean score for the intervention group was 8.11 and 4.92 for the control group (mean difference: 3.1; t: 7.6; p = 0.00). The students included in the educational strategy were more likely to obtain a better level of knowledge (OR: 19.6; 95%CI: 3.5-110; c2 M-H: 12.3; p = 0.001). Conclusion: Carrying out an educational intervention on cardiovascular risk factors in undergraduate internal doctors significantly improves their level of knowledge.
