HERNANDEZ PEREZ, Ricardo; ALVAREZ CASTILLO, Alberto; OLARTE PAREDES, Alfredo y SALGADO DELGADO, Areli Marlen. Obtaining nanocellulose from postharvest waste. Mundo nano [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.30, e00065. Epub 14-Ago-2023. ISSN 2448-5691. https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485691e.2023.30.69662.
The main problem faced by agro-industrial waste the lack of producer’s environmental awareness, added to the few resources allocated to the development of new technologies and the poor government policies for the management of said waste. This generates point sources of atmospheric pollutants and makes us an accomplice to climate change due to the emission of greenhouse gases and short-lived climate pollutants, such as black carbon. In recent decades, there has been great interest in the discovery of a new world, nanoparticles and in particular nanocellulose. Some achievements are already visible and have multiple applications. However, although it is true that there are numerous advances in obtaining these nanomaterials from different types of natural fibers or post-harvest residues, research is still needed to achieve the feasibility of such technologies, mainly due to energy costs and production costs. This review provides a summary of various laboratory tests, which recognize the possibility of obtaining nanocellulose from waste postharvest by various methods, in order to arouse interest in improving logistics and process efficiency offered obtaining from different agroindustry waste.
