The present study is a first approach to elucidate the concept that Mexican society has about nanotechnology. As a survey tool, the survey was used, in order to detect myths and set the tone for their clarification. The results of this survey are presented and the answers received are discussed to validate and/or correct them. This work concludes that it is imperative to design strategies to raise awareness in Mexican society about nanotechnology and eliminate erroneous ideas about it that may impede its progress and implementation.
