Resumen

ORTEGA-ALVAREZ, Rubén  y  CASAS, Alejandro. Pileated Flycatcher, Xenotriccus mexicanus: first record for Colima, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, e631.  Epub 31-Oct-2022. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2022.23.1.663.

The known distribution of the Pileated Flycatcher (Xenotriccus mexicanus) is restricted to western Mexico, from central Michoacán to the west of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, encompassing an altitudinal range from 900 to 2000 masl. We report two individuals of the species in a site of tropical deciduous forest in the Nahua community of Zacualpan, Colima. This is the first record for the state and the western-most published record for the species. Moreover, we made our observation at ~200 m below the minimum altitudinal reported for this flycatcher. The presence of X. mexicanus in the vicinity of the Sierra de Manantlán Biosphere Reserve provides an opportunity to increase its refuge within a natural protected area. This also enhances the biological and ornithological relevance of the reserve, the communal territory, and the state of Colima.
