Resumen

SALGADO-FLORES, Jorge Luis  y  RODRIGUEZ-RUIZ, Erick Rubén. Partial leucism in the Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus) in Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, e636.  Epub 31-Oct-2022. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2022.23.1.638.

In this note we describe a case of partial leucism in two individuals (mother and daughter) of the Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus) in the Neotropics. Between November 2019 and May 2021 in Guerrero, Mexico, we observed a female Great-tailed Grackle with partial leucism, conserving bilateral symmetry. During 18 months, we detected no changes in the pattern of abnormal coloration of the adult female. On 11 August 2020, we observed the adult female with abnormal pigmentation feeding a juvenile, which also presented abnormality in plumage coloration. We observed that leucism in this species can present variations, but maintains bilateral symmetry. Furthermore, we corroborate that this abnormality is present from birth, does not vary over time, and is transmitted to offspring.
