CIPRES-CHAVEZ, Adrián; CORDOBA-CUEVAS, Enya Astrid y TOTO-COBIX, Jordi. New records of the Tufted Flycatcher (Mitrephanes phaeocercus) in the central coast of Veracruz, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, e622. Epub 24-Oct-2022. ISSN 1870-7459. https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2021.22.2.565.
The Tufted Flycatcher (Mitrephanes phaeocercus) is a widely distributed tyrannid of the mountain regions of Mexico and Central America. The species inhabits mainly Pine-Oak and cloud forests, but there are records in lower elevation tropical forests during the non-breeding season in the Mexican Pacific northwest. In this note, we describe the presence of the Tufted Flycatcher outside of its known distribution on the central gulf coast of Mexico during the non-breeding season (winter 2020-2021), in mangrove forest of the Arroyo Moreno protected area, Veracruz, Mexico. Continued research and citizen science on birds in mangroves forest of Mexico is fundamental to understand their biology, particularly for those recorded outside their distribution.
