Resumen

RAMIREZ-ADAME, David  y  JIMENEZ-PIEDRAGIL, César D.. First nesting record of The Balsas Screech Owl (Megascops seductus). Huitzil [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.109-114. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2018.19.1.313.

The Balsas Screech Owl (Megascops seductus) is an endemic owl from Mexico distributed along the Balsas river basin. It is a moderately common species within its range; however, information on its reproductive biology is insufficient. Historic records have mentioned the eggs are color white and species nests in cavities. In this note, we report a nest of Balsas Screech Owl, which was found in two consecutive years, in 2015 and 2016, at the Archaeological Zone of Xochicalco, in the state of Morelos. We describe the first nest and chick for this species, contributing to the breeding biology by describing period of nesting, egg morphology, parental care, and clutch size.
