OCHOA ARTEAGA, Alberto; GARCIA LEYVA, Alejandro y CHARRE, Grégory Michaël. First record of the Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus) for the locality of El Limón, Sierra de Huautla, Morelos, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.2, pp.215-219. ISSN 1870-7459.
Species records in new localities are of great interest to know its real geographic distribution and develop integral conservation strategies. We give the first record of the presence of the Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus) in the Sierra de Huautla Biosphere Reserve, in the municipality of Tepalcingo, Morelos State, Mexico. We observed a female individual perched on an emblematic tree of the tropical dry forest: a Bursera, near the biologic station "El Limón", during the dry season of 2015. The area where we identified the raptor consisted of patches of secondary vegetation of a disturbed dry forest. This record will allow that further studies can evaluate its real distribution in the State of Morelos and suggests paying more attention to the possible presence of the species in nearby areas.
