DAVO ORTIZ, Michelle. Queer pleasure celebrations in the city. Study proposal for diverse sex parties. La ventana [online]. 2020, vol.6, n.52, pp.219-240. Epub 09-Feb-2021. ISSN 1405-9436.
The queer communities of Mexico City organize parties in specific zones such as Colonia Doctores, Zona Rosa, and Centro Histórico (downtown). In these ephemeral spaces, different dissident practices around gender and its intersections are generated through ludic pleasures. The purpose of this essay is to study these parties through the lenses of four theoretical propositions as critical tools: Judith Butler’s theory of performativity; Sara Ahmed’s cultural policy of emotions; the concepts of “play”, “ordinary time” and “extra-ordinary time” in Cyntia Montes; and the concept of “a-normal practices” by Rían Lozano. The queries generated by the authors will shed a light on how these parties confront the heterosexual normativities of spaces when a new way to conceive bodies performativity through pleasure and playfulness is created. Just as important, their function is to understand how the study of these practices, before providing knowledge, helps us think through other ways of knowing using pleasure epistemologies.
