Resumen

CORREA-POSADA, Martha O. et al. Characterization of minor saphenectomy for insufficiency in Colombia: 3 to 5 years of follow-up. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2023, vol.51, n.4, pp.112-117.  Epub 16-Abr-2024. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.23000023.

Background:

Small saphenous vein stripping is an option for the management of varicose veins. In Colombia, few studies have evaluated long term outcomes in these patients. Symptoms and recurrences were evaluated in those who underwent a lesser saphenous vein stripping.

Objective:

To determinate the sociodemographic, clinical and sonography characteristics of patients who underwent small saphenous vein stripping in the long term.

Methods:

A prospective study with 3 to 5 year follow up periods was performed in patients with surgical stripping of small saphenous vein between 2016 and 2018 in Colombia.

Results:

Forty-six patients were followed. 84.7% had a clinical CEAP 1 or CEAP 2 stage. 17.4% of patients still had symptoms associated with chronic venous disease, and the Doppler study performed showed 32% lesser saphenous vein insufficiency recurrence and 50% tributaries recurrence.

Conclusion:

Small saphenous vein stripping and phlebectomy have a recurrence rate similar to other studies and procedures in the mid- to long term follow-up (30% and 65% respectively).
