Introduction
Considering the current inverted population pyramid and its related consequences, researching on aging and the old age has become a priority in the analysis of the demographic transformation processes worldwide, particularly in the evermore complex social contexts we live in. One on these scenarios is the migration context, which bears additional challenges to the pursuit of life strategies to coping with the aging process.
Objective
This is a narrative review on the current state of discussion about aging and mental health and framed within the migration context while considering the diverse disciplines which contribute to the knowledge of nursing.
Development
The focusses on the differentiation and analysis between the old age and the aging process and how these are intertwined with social dynamics such as migration, are first addressed to finally present a discussion on the approaches to the related mental health issues.
Conclusion
This review contributes to the understanding on the coping life strategies of old people in different contexts, such as migration, so that the corresponding culturally and socially competent care plans can be developed.
