Resumen

OSORIO MERCADO, Hloreley. Autonomy of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua and migration in comparative perspective. Pap. poblac [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.112, pp.111-162.  Epub 31-Mar-2023. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2022.112.14.

From a historical-structural approach and discourse analysis, the article analyzes the conditions that have allowed different Autonomy regimes of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua and various migration processes within the framework of territorial changes, the trajectory of authority and multiethnic rights in the history of the region. This shows that the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua has gone through three different models of autonomy regimes and migration processes: the autonomy regime of the so-called Mosquitia Reserve and international immigration processes (1860-1894); the abolition of said regime and the prevalence of internal immigration (1894-1979) and the Regional Autonomy regime of the Atlantic Coast-Caribbean with intensive internal immigration (1990-2019). The analysis reveals the causal mechanisms that explain the relationship between these Autonomy regimes and migration: the dispossession of territory, authority and rights from 1894 to today and job opportunities in the caribbean.
