WELTI-CHANES, Carlos  y  RAMIREZ-PENAGOS, Alfonso C.. Effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the actions implemented to deal with it on electoral records. The experience in Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.112, pp.11-58.  Epub 31-Mar-2023. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2022.112.11.

This article analyzes the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Register and the Nominal List of Electors in Mexico, through the observation of the levels of coverage and updating of each of these registries. The increase in the number of deaths caused that the National Electoral Institute to implement a special strategy to promptly remove these deaths from the electoral register. Given that the way to face the pandemic consisted of a non-pharmacological response that forced the confinement of people, the reduction of mobility and the closure of various non-essential activities, the INE had to develop actions to significantly reduce the effect of the pandemic on the coverage and updating of records, through the extension of the validity of the voter card to guarantee the right to vote, and by implementing health security measures in the Citizen Attention Modules so that citizens do not be inhibited when registering or updating your data. The information analyzed also makes evident the interest of citizens, especially young people, to register for the first time or update their data, which contributed to maintaining coverage and updating of electoral registers with very similar levels to those previously achieved.
