Resumen

RAMIREZ CARRILLO, Luis Alfonso. Persistent Identity and Ethnic Nepotism: Social Mobility of Lebanese Immigrants in Mexico. Nueva antropol [online]. 2018, vol.31, n.89, pp.9-23. ISSN 0185-0636.

In the transition from country life to city life during the last century, immigrants of Lebanese origin built a new ethnic identity in Mexico and Latin America as a strategy for survival and social mobility. This identity was created by linking various kinds of inclusive and overlapping social ties based on kinship and personal, political, and business alliances. In this context, throughout the article we explore concepts related to endogamy, the extended family and the formation of associations, as well as endogroups and ethnic nepotism.

Palabras llave : Lebanese migration; identity; endogamy; endogroup; social mobility; ethnic nepotism.
