Resumen

SIMBANA LINCANGO, Wilmer. “American” modernity and the new spiritual dispossession in Latin America. Inter disciplina [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.21, pp.111-136.  Epub 14-Ago-2020. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2020.21.75149.

Modernity, as a civilizational project that emerged in the sixteenth century, was perfected in the proposal of modernity of the United States, which forms an ethos highly compatible with the logic of capitalism/colonialism. Like the previous versions of modernity, the “American” version had an important support in a specific system of religious beliefs. Therefore, the “American” Puritan Protestantism was transformed through the birth of Pentecostalism, where the religious practice for dispossession is refined in the theology or gospel of prosperity. This doctrine, which is on the rise in Latin America, maintains the continuity of dispossession and coloniality in the region.

Palabras llave : American modernity; prosperity gospel; religious ethos; spiritual dispossession; coloniality.
