Climate change is putting humanity in front of ethical choices that will define the (quality of) life of future generations and other species that inhabit the planet. Although the knowledge about climate change is increasingly accurate and the effects, despite being uncertain, can already be predicted, climate change response is still insufficient and ineffective.

This paper shows how this lack of response has been elaborated in sociology as a collective process of social construction. The aim of this article is to reflect on the lack of response to climate change from some sociological contributions and the results of an ongoing research in Mexico City.

Crossing the results of the literature with in-depth interviews with eight members of the General Assembly of Villages, Communities, Neighborhoods, and Hills of Coyoacan, which has been denouncing water wastage in Mexico City, I will analyze emotions that influence climate change responses, as well as some strategies that could be improved to overcome the difficulties generated by these uncomfortable emotions.
