Agroecology is a scientific discipline, a social/political movement and an agricultural practice that brings together, synthesizes and applies knowledge of agronomy, ecology, sociology, ethnobotany, and other related sciences, with a holistic, systemic and strong ethical component, in order to generate knowledge, validate and apply adequate strategies to design, manage and evaluate sustainable agroecosystems. The current productive economic system, through the use of energy subsidies, accelerates the flow of energy and the circulation of matter of agroecosystems, leading to an increase in entropy reflected in pollution and loss of biological-cultural diversity among other aspects. To visualize the limits of ecosystems, it is important to develop the concepts of thermodynamics, carrying capacity, ecological footprint, carbon footprint and sustainability. Strong sustainability expresses that natural capital is not replaceable by human capital, the economic system depends on the ecosystem, therefore cannot maintain a continuous growth. This accounts for the finitude of planet earth. Taking into account different publications, this work proposed to think of an agriculture that allows the compatibility of adequate levels of production with the conservation of nature, taking into account the asymmetries or social, spatial and temporal inequalities in the human use of resources, proposing a sustainable evolution. Agroecology presents concrete strategies of resistance and resilience to climate change, promoting a form of biodiverse and equitable agriculture.
