This review addresses the study of the demarcation of idle land carried out by colonizing companies in the State of Chiapas during the period of 1881-1917, and their main conclusions are examinated in discussion with the revolutionary and postrevolutionary agrarian historiography. The revision of the general overview of previous and recent work on the subject gives rise to an evaluation of the main contributions of this text by Justus Fenner.
