This article aims to analyze how the construction of spaces for youth leadership contributed towards a violence prevention policy in the municipality of Canoas, Brazil. It also discusses the process that led to the construction of concrete spaces for youth leadership in a social project regarding public security, the youth center, Casa de la Juventud, geared to young people and teenagers exposed to crime risk factors. It attempts to demonstrate how the construction of a culture of peace through the participation of young people in this project is presented as a positive aspect of violence prevention.
